A Boise-based band rocked the stage of, "The Zepher Club" on Saturday, April 26, 2003, playing music which could be considerably compared to that of the "Dave Mathews Band."
With many admirers bobbing their head to the southing, yet rock type of sound of the music, "Marcus Eaton & the Lobby" definitely made their mark. Marcus Eaton, who is the lead guitarist and vocals, took a cue from his dad and began playing the guitar at nine-years-old.
Marcus states, "We only had one television station, so I spent most of my time doing creative things."
Still pursuing those creative ideas he added three similarly inspired musicians to his band, Azk Frantz (saxophones, flute, ewi) Jim Monson (bass) and Nathan Keezer (drums and percussion) creating the collectively known "Marcus Eaton & the Lobby."
Unlike many of the bands hitting the stages these days, Marcus and the band create a sound which presents talent and dedication. Their lyrics seem to have been put together meticulously, and once added to the music, they came across with such ease and simplicity.
"The music is full of talent and is definitely something to put on when you want to take some time out and just chill," commented an out-of-town fan Gregory Altom.
Marcus Eaton & the Lobby subscribe to the, "if you work hard enough, something good will happen" ethic. Proving just that, the band's crazy quilt musical approach can be heard on their record debut, "The day the world awoke," which features ten original compositions, plus a special mix of the first single, "Top of the World."
Marcus Eaton & the lobby have been pinpointed as a, "soulful world of ME&L, breezy jazz-fold melodies, mingling with R&B-inflected vocals, primal world rhythms and life affirming lyrics."
Parker Critchfield, a long time fan of the band comments, "What sets this band apart is the lyrics and diversity with the instruments. They are truly talented and it shines through their music."
