USA Network's new series "Touching Evil" is a remake of the British show "Touching Evil." It has been compared to the "X-Files," "CSI" and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent". That's a lot for one show to live up to but "Touching Evil" has not disappointed so far.
Bruce Willis is an Executive Producer of the series, but there are currently no plans for him to make a guest appearance. Other big name executive producers are the Huges Brothers (director/producer "From Hell) and Arnold Rifkin (producer "The Whole Ten Yards").
The main characters are David Creegan and Susan Branca, who are partners on the Organized and Serial Crimes (OSC) Task force. Creegan is convincingly played by Jeffrey Donovan. Vera Farminga quietly shines as Branca.
Five years ago Creegan was shot in the head and pronounced clinically dead for ten minutes. When Branca asks about it he tells her that, "being dead was easy. Coming back was the hard part."
The head injury has created some major changes in his personality: A sequential disorder, an uncanny ability to see patterns and a complete lack of shame. As a result of the sequential disorder he tells Branca that he has to remind himself of the order things are supposed to go in, "Arrest, trial, then execution."
Perhaps the most interesting side effect is that Creegan is now very direct and completely honest, to the point of admitting that he went to the a suspects house with the intention of killing him.
Branca has a dry and understated sense of humor that is a very good balance for Creegan. At first she didn't know what to make of him, but is learning to trust him and his instincts. One such instinct is the ability to read people and understand them.
While he works on instinct she tells him that, "What I know is what I can prove." It makes them perfect as partners. He comes up with the answers and she finds the way to logically prove his answers. But Creegan doesn't just work on instinct. He has an amazing amount of random knowledge, that he puts to use in analyzing the crime scenes and evidence.
