The votes are in

Issue date: 3/19/07 Section: News
Student Life and Leadership announced the election results for the 2007-2008 Executive Council March 9 in the Student Events Center on the Redwood Campus.

SLL was hoping for a larger voter turnout than last year's 1100. Although SLL felt like it was a good campaign, only 1079 students voted.

Current Executive Vice President Curtis Buyer addressed the excited and nerved-wracked crowd.

"Coming in here, I shook a lot of sweaty hands. I've never felt so many clammy hands," said Buyer of the candidates. The anticipation wasn't dragged out; the current executive council quickly assembled and began announcing those elected.

The vote for President went to Hallee Thomsen. It was a tight race between Thomsen and her opponent, Pauline Fonua. Thomsen led with 580 votes to Fonua's 417.

"It was a close race, and a tough competition," said Thomsen.

Thomsen is looking forward to finishing her duties as a student senator until she is sworn in. She plans on taking that time to learn all that she can to prepare herself to lead the school.

"I'm excited for the changes that I can make and the influence that I can have on the community college, to make it the best that it can be," said Thomsen.

The Executive Vice President vote went to Evan Johnson. Johnson was the clear winner with more than half the votes.

"I'm overwhelmed," said Johnson. He said he is going to start working on issues such as parking and hopes to clean up some of the classrooms on the Redwood campus. Johnson will also work to get more classes added to the Jordan campus.

Kristopher Lundstrom will be the next Fine Arts and Lectures Vice President. Lundstrom ran unopposed. He said he is looking forward to bringing more great speakers and bands to the campus.

Skyler Kevern was elected the Redwood Activities Vice President. Kevern also ran unopposed. Kevern hopes to make more students aware of activities and events on campus so there is more student involvement.
