Studying for classes is vital to a student's success in college. There are many opportunities where studying can take place: the bus, breaks at work, in-between classes at school, and countless others.

The home is, of course, usually a convenient option, but may not be the most ideal situation for all. "I prefer studying anywhere but at home," said George Wens, a mechanical engineering major, and many students at SLCC agree with him.

So where are the best places on SLCC campus to study? Students were more than eager to dish out their favorite study areas on campus.

Patrick Pacheco, a nursing major, is a fan of the Student Center's second floor. "I like studying on the second floor because it's quiet and usually not that crowded," said Pacheco. There are hundreds of chairs and tables available to students on both floors of the Student Center.

"If the weather is nice I like to study out here [on the Student Center Patio]. I also go to the Learning Center so I can use the computer and get tutoring when I need it," said Krystal Gibson, an English major. There are several locations around campus where there are outside benches, chairs, and tables with umbrellas.

"I would say my favorite [study area] is in the lounge area of the technology building," said Carmela Lucio a business management major. The Technology Building has a large lounge with couches, lounge chairs, and tables for students to do some quick studying in between classes. The lounge is also conveniently close to the Learning Center where there are tutors, computers, and areas to study.

"My favorite place to study is the library because it is nice and quiet," said Hadiyah Muhamed, a business major. The library is full of nooks and crannies where a student can get some quiet studying done. There are many other resources in the library to aid studying.

Jessica Noren, a pre-health major, likes to study on the balconies of the Science/Industry Building. "Outside, it's peaceful and calm. This is my first time out here and I really like it. I think I will dedicate this bench as my official study area," said Noren.

Noren also suggested that when studying, it might be a good idea to turn off all electronic devices. Cell phones and computers are easily distracting. Texts, Facebook, Twitter, and other alerting programs can have a student distracted for hours. If they are turned off, it creates a quiet, undisturbed environment that enhances study time.

The SLCC campus has loads of available turf where students can get some hard-core studying done. Creative study hangouts can be rotated or become permanent abodes. Who knows, maybe there are even better study locations on campus yet to be realized...
