An over casted, wet day like Saturday, Nov. 14, was a great way to set the scene for two of vampires to visit Salt Lake. These vampires, or at least they play them in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, were here to meet the fans and hundreds of them showed up at Fashion Place Mall in Murray.

Jamie Campbell Bower (Caius) and Edi Gathegi (Laurent) were making their last fan appearance before the New Moon premier this week. Despite the snowy weather both were in good spirits, and happy to be here.

"I read the books upon receiving the original draft of the first movie, which I wanted to be involved in," says Campbell Bower, "What appealed to me, was what has appealed to a lot of people, is this underlying love story that runs throughout the entire series of the books. It is danger, real and it is fundamentally true, apart from the fact that she has fallen in love with a vampire."

Campbell Bower was originally going to try for the part of Edward, which is being played by Robert Pattinson, but other obligations kept him from meeting the producers in LA. However, he was very excited to be playing Caius. While Campbell Bower knew he wanted to be in the films from the beginning, Gathegi was not sure about playing a vampire.

"I only read the books when I was going to play the part. I hadn't heard of the series, didn't know what it was, and to be quite frank I didn't get the whole script, I just got the scene I was auditioning for, and at the time I didn't even want to audition for it," says Gathegi, "My character was saying 'What is your hunting range?' and 'The humans are tracking us.' And I thought well I'm saying the humans are tracking us means I'm not one. I'm not interested in this."

Later after meeting Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first film, Gathegi came around, and fell in love with the books.

"Stephenie Meyer was so specific in how she painted the world of the earth as we know, and then introduced vampires and explained how they could exist. And then she captured first love in a truthful way," says Gathegi
